£10k donation keeps Scunthorpe boxing club open

07 January 2022

We have made a generous £10,000 donation to Scunthorpe Imps amateur boxing club, keeping it open for the local community to make use of.

The club opened its doors over 50 years ago and is now run by brothers Steve and Chris Barraclough. It’s non-profit and in recent years has struggled to stay afloat.

Their objective is to get kids off the streets and make a difference. They offer fitness classes for all ages, along with basic through to specialist training.

After hearing about their struggles from one of their engineers, we decided to make a huge donation the club, helping them to stay open.

This is part of our promise to donate a proportion of our profit to community organisations. We also donated £16,922 over 2021.

Michelle Mills Manager at Hales and Coultas said: “We are delighted that we’re able to support this project, as it means a lot to one of our staff members.

“The work they do in providing a place for local children to go and keep active is amazing and is definitely something worth supporting.

“We can’t wait to see the difference it makes and wish them all the best in the future.”

Steve Barraclough, Owner of the boxing club said: “Myself and my brother Chris run the club and are passionate about giving people the opportunity to keep fit and get into the sport of boxing.

“We are very much community focused and among our members we even have three generations of a family ranging from 13 to 62, who train on a regular basis.

“We feel there are so many distractions for young people such as devices, and we want help in getting people active.

“We are overwhelmed to have received such a big donation and we can’t thanks the team at Hales and Coultas enough, it means everything. We’re going to spend it on a new sign, rent and equipment.”
